Meet the Delaware County Queen of the Hustle—Lisa Chavous

Lisa Chavous is a familiar name to musicians in Delaware County and Philadelphia, who has sang all of her life.

People familiar with Philadelphia and Delaware County’s music scene generally know Lisa Chavous, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

Born and raised in Sharon Hill, Chavous, now a Lansdowne resident, is a spot-on tribute artist specializing in Motown, disco, R&B, and the blues.

Chavous is an international vocalist as well as a songwriter, recording artist, promoter, bandleader, booking agent and producer.

“Lisa Chavous is the eleventh wonder of the world, and the hardest working musical artist I’ve ever encountered,” said Jamey Reilly, owner and operator of Jamey’s House of Music in Lansdowne where she frequently performs to sellout crowds.

She’s earned the title, The Queen of the Hustle, Reilly said.

Chavous has been singing all of her life, starting with her family performances at parties.  At age 12, she choreographed a drill team, the Darby Township Swingers.

In the 1980s, she started a career as a solo artist, singing at a wide range of venues and with a variety of local artists.

“By now, everyone knows me, and I know everybody,” Chavous said, smiling. “Delco and the Philadelphia area are like that. It’s like living in a big city but having small town connections.”
