Italian Heritage Festival Delights the Crowds at Rose Tree Park in Upper Providence

Hundreds of people gathered to watch the Sbandieratori Fiorentini, a group of Italian flag throwers from Florence, Italy.

The 14th annual Italian American Heritage Festival had it all this year—Pig porchetta roasts, a St. Anthony statue covered in money, flag throwers from Florence, a moving tribute to Padre Pio, and an Italian car and motorcycle display.

Thousands showed up to experience all things Italian Sunday at Rose Tree Park in Upper Providence, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

Over 70 food, novelty and business vendors were on site, along with Italian dancers and bocce ball courts.

Entertainment came from headliner Chris Ruggiero, The Singing DJs and The Verdi Band.

The event was emceed by Italian radio host Melissa Canavo-Marino of NewsRadio 1450WILM, and actress Mary Lou Koch.

Cristina Mele, consul general of Italy in Philadelphia was also on hand.

The festival is organized by The Coalition of Italian American Organizations of Delaware County (CIAO Delco).

“Passing our Italian culture and traditions onto the children of the next generation is what’s most important about this festival,” shared Rose Patton, an active CIAO Delco and Abruzzese Delco board member. “Kids need exposure to our Italian culture, traditions and values. This festival helps to stress the importance of our heritage.”
