Tudor Home in West Chester Perfectly Blends Classic, Modern Designs

A lovely Tudor home in West Chester recently got an upgrade that perfectly blended its classic character and charm with modern design, writes Eileen Smith Dallabrida for Main Line Today.

Holly and John Naughton fell in love with the 1928 home with the opulent millwork and superior craftsmanship of the era. After purchasing the property, they enlisted West Chester-based Hazley Builders to revitalize spaces within the home and expand its cramped galley kitchen.

“We were intent on retaining the classic exposed wood beams, decorative stone accents, plaster walls, rich oak floors, and steel casement windows,” said Michael Hazley, president of the design-build firm.

For the kitchen, the team moved the basement stairs, relocated the laundry room, and removed a powder room. This created enough space to add a center island, pantry, and custom appliance garage. The space was brightened using patterned Carrara marble backsplash and milky quartz countertops.

The firm left the original mahogany beams and French doors in the living room and added pocket French doors in the dining area.

Meanwhile, the basement became a less formal gathering space with exposed steam radiators and pipes that fit perfectly with the home’s vintage aesthetic.
