The Friends of Ridley Creek State Park are celebrating a new sensory playground while over at Rose Tree Park, a new message board is in place, thanks to Ridley High School sophomore Erica Rainford.
The Ridley Creek State Park sensory playground is by Pavilion Eight, near the equestrian stables in the park, and is open to the public, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
The playground features a dozen interactive panes and activities for smaller children and was made possible by $25,000 of support from the Friends group.
A ribbon cutting took place at 1 PM Saturday, April 20.
“This new playground adds a fun dimension to our wonderful park, and I am thankful to the Ridley Creek State Park Friends Group for making this playground possible,” Ridley Creek State Park Manager Alexa Rose said.
Sensory playgrounds offer nurturing and inclusive environments designed to stimulate the senses such as sight, sound, smell, touch, balance and sense of movement.
At Rose Tree Park, Erica Rainford led Leedom Troop 339G in a one-day construction project to replace the message board, which had a rotting sign, broken door and a brochure box that had fallen off.
The project earned her Eagle Scout status.
