$1.4 Million Reaney Street Renovation Celebrated in Chester

It's hoped that a Reaney Street renovation in Chester near Subaru Park will make it easier for people to access the riverfront.

The Philadelphia Union and the Riverfront Alliance of Delaware County were among those who celebrated the yearlong $1.4 million reconstruction of an 850-foot section of Reaney Street in Chester, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

The Reaney Street renovation focused on part of the street located near the Philadelphia Union’s stadium, Subaru Park.

“It took a lot of effort, but we finally got it done,” said Lisa Gaffney, executive director of the Riverfront Alliance of Delaware County.

The renovation project was part of the Chester Waterfront Master Plan that was released by the Riverfront Alliance in September 2021. The aim was to develop the riverfront area near Commodore Barry Bridge Park.

“This is part of an ongoing effort to make the waterfront in Chester accessible to all,” said Adam Kaliner, president of the Riverfront Alliance of Delaware County. “I want to thank all the funders who have helped make this happen. It has been a true team effort.”

The project was completed through a public/private partnership that used $1 million of tax credits awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Waterfront Development Tax Credit Program.
