To improve student well-being, the Pennsbury School District in Bucks County has decided to delay the start time for its high school. Currently beginning the day at 7:20 AM, Pennsbury High School’s early start is earlier than most in the region, according to Fox 29 Philadelphia.
Acknowledging the challenge early mornings pose for students, the district announced on Monday that beginning September 2025, the school day will start at 8:00 AM.
This change aims to help students better manage their morning routines and enhance their alertness in classes.
Superintendent Thomas A. Smith highlighted the importance of aligning the school’s schedule with students’ natural sleep patterns to promote better academic performance and overall health.
The district plans to use the next 17 months to thoroughly prepare for this shift. This preparation will involve adjusting transportation schedules, after-school activities, and the high school’s overall daily schedule.
During this period, the district will also conduct informational sessions to discuss the logistical changes and the anticipated benefits of this initiative.
The decision, which has been under consideration for several years, will be further discussed in an upcoming board of directors meeting on Thursday.
