If you’re in need of a Portuguese Custard Tart and you happen to be In Swarthmore, there’s a pastry shop that can take care of you.
Pastry Pants Bakery had a grand re-opening as a new shop with specialty pastries in Swarthmore Sunday, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
Previously, it was a home-based bakery started by borough resident Robert Smythe during the pandemic.

The bakery featured croissants, baguettes, cupcakes, cookies, breads, macaroons, cakes, tarts, pies and baked goods suited to customer’s needs.
Smythe wants the storefront location to be reminiscent of a 1925 European bakery, where customers wandered off the street, watching the bakers mix the batter, twist the pretzels and knead the bread.
“I want the customers who come through the door to smell the smells, talk to us, and watch us make our baked goods from scratch,” he said. “This is very important to me.”
When the bakery was at Smythe’s home, local residents lined his driveway for the fresh daily baked-from scratch goods.
