Glen Mills Winery in the Top 10 at Pennsylvania Wine Tasting
Pennsylvania is home to over 400 winemakers producing wines that are spotlighted annually by the Pennsylvania Winery Association, writes Leigh Green for PA Eats.
In the top 10 this year was The Inn at Grace Winery in Glen Mills.
It was awarded Best White for its 2023 Pinot Gris at the PWA’s Sommelier Judgement of Pennsylvania Wines on May 13.
A blind panel of sommeliers, wine writers, educators and buyers met at Paradocx Vineyard in Landenberg for an all-day tasting and analysis of over 80 wines.
The wines were made with 100 percent Pennsylvania grown fruit, with at least 75 percent of a vinifera or hybrid variety, and less than 1 percent residual sugar
The panel sampled sparkling, white, rosé and red wines.
Wines were scored based on appearance, aroma and bouquet, taste and texture, after taste and overall impression.
“The 2024 PA Somm Judgement was the best so far,” said Scott Zoccollilo, director of Restaurants at Method Co. “Having so many new faces take part of the event, all excited to see what Pennsylvania producers are offering was very motivating.
He noted the quality of wines in Pennsylvania continues to increase.
