Delco Gives, a 24-hour testament to Delaware County’s generosity and community giving, starts today, May 8. This county-wide event and celebration runs until 7 PM May 9.

Delaware County residents have an opportunity to make a donation to their favorite local nonprofits, find new ones to support, or even support all of the participating nonprofits by giving to a General Fund.

The nonprofit community has been registering as Delco Gives participants over the past several weeks. More than 285 nonprofits are on board.

Each donation is eligible for bonus money provided by The Foundation for Delaware County, which is hosting the event.

In addition, there will be cash prizes sponsored by local businesses given throughout the 24 hours to the various organizations  that receive donations.

Online activity will be accompanied by celebrations throughout the county, bringing together nonprofits, donors, businesses, and volunteers highlighting the power of collective action and community giving.

The following activities are scheduled for today (May 8) and Thursday (May 9):

• May 8 Kick-off Event–Chester Block Party from 4 to 8 PM at Chester City Hall.  Enjoy live performances from dance groups, DJs, and local artists. Featuring delicious offerings from local Chester restaurants, interactive activities for all ages, and plenty of opportunities to connect with your neighbors.

• May 8 Kick-off Event—Dining Under the Stars from 6 to 8 PM at Veterans Square in Media. The event includes performances from Marple Newtown High School Cheerleaders, Next Gen Theatre’s “Kiss Me Kate,” Garnet Valley High School, various musical theater numbers, L’Levatate Dance Studio, and Media Theatre’s “Seussical the Musical.”  There will be food trucks, a beer garden, and a Scooped ice cream giveaway. • May 9 Breakfast Tailgates from 7:30 to 10 AM will provide breakfast sandwiches and coffee for volunteers.

• May 9 Closing Celebrations from 4 to 7:30 PM at Rose Tree Park.  The grand finale of Delco Gives Day will be this closing celebration at Rose Tree Park. This event will feature family-friendly activities, food trucks, and an ice cream giveaway. IHeart Radio will be DJing, Bex and Buster will broadcast live, and Phillie Phanatic, Gritty, and Phang will be making an appearance. Jason Martinez from Fox 29 will MC,

The Foundation for Delaware County brings success to local nonprofits through collective philanthropy, uniting individuals, families, and businesses for a greater impact.

The Foundation provides leadership and helps mobilize resources to support the nonprofit community so they can address Delaware County communities’ biggest challenges.

Delco Gives is its largest collective philanthropic effort to date.
