Every year, Delaware County recognizes its Delco-ness with an unofficial Delco Day holiday June 10, in honor of the county’s area code—610.
This year’s celebration (the 9th year of the holiday) takes place Saturday, June 1, 2 PM to 2 AM, at JT Brewskis in Primos.
The theme this year is all about Scrapple, writes Kenny Cooper for WHYY.
Price of admission is $6.10 and proceeds will benefit a Delaware County-based cancer foundation.
The party includes music performances and speeches from local officials.
“It’s family-friendly during the day,” said Chris Holbrook, co-founder of the Delco Live podcast, which created the annual event. “And then at the end of the night goes full-Delco.”
Delco Day sponsor this year is Habbersett Scrapple, the first and largest producer of scrapple going back to 1863. The company has its roots in Middletown, so this year there will be a Scrapple-themed menu.
Last year, the holiday raised $22,000 for the Delco-based HEADstrong Foundation, which supports families with cancer diagnoses.
“Adding $20,000 to your fundraising every year really makes an impact, especially for the families that we’re helping locally,” said Jeff Baxter, vice president of community engagement at HEADstrong.
