Shaahed Hussain and his family are eternally grateful to the family that provided him with a life-saving liver.

The celebration of Eid-al-Fitr by Muslims Tuesday marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and an end to fasting.

It is often celebrated with a feast and gifts.

Shaahed Hussain of Garnet Valley expects to be around for many Eid-al-Fitr celebrations to come, thanks to a particularly selfless gift, writes TaRhonda Thomas for 6abc.

The 11th grader received the gift of an organ donation.

“I can’t believe this happened to me of all people,” he said.

Shaheed needed a liver transplant when he was just four months old.

He had three liver transplant surgeries in his first year of life before they were finally successful.

“Every single person had prayed for him,” said his mother Shamim.

She is grateful to the donor family that chose to give even in their time of sorrow when their loved one passed away.

It’s a message the Gift of Life Donor Program is sharing with the Muslim community.

“End-stage organ failure doesn’t know religion. And there are many Muslims who are also waiting for an organ transplant,” said Rick Hasz, president and CEO of Gift of Life Donor Program.
