Stuzo, a software company that powers convenience store transactions, has been sold to Par Technology and hopes to eventually sign a deal with a major Delaware County retailer.

“Next, we want Wawa!” said a laughing Gunter Pfau, founder of Stuzo Holdings LLC.

The Philadelphia-based company was sold for $190 million in cash and stock to Par Technology Corp of New Hartford, New York, writes Joseph N. DiStefano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Pfau said that Stuzo will now have an edge to compete for business with bigger companies like Wawa because it is part of Par, a larger publicly traded company.

Par Technology develops software for restaurants and retail businesses.

Stutzo already serves Chevron, Marathon Petroleum, Murphy USA, Yesway, Delek and Circle K stores nationwide.

Wawa, which is still controlled by heirs to the founding Wood family, is on a national expansion kick but does use Philadelphia-area contractors and suppliers like Tastykake and Amoroso’s.

Stuzo has about 215 employees, including technology staff based in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries.

There are 60 workers assigned to the company’s headquarters near Reading Terminal Market.
