The popular Margaret Kuo's in Wayne, offering upscale Asian cuisine, is closing.

Warren and Margaret Kuo wanted to build something unique that would last, so they took family recipes and brought upscale Asian dining to the Main Line with Margaret Kuo’s in Wayne.

The restaurant opened in 2002 and became a popular spot for high-end Chinese and Japanese cuisine, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.

Now, they are closing their doors.

“It’s hard to put it into words,” said Warren Kuo, who owns and operates the restaurant with his wife Margaret. “Margaret and I have put our hearts into this.”

Margaret got into the restaurant business in the 1970s with a Peking restaurant in the Granite Run Mall after her parents visiting from Taiwan, has an “underwhelming meal” at a local Chinese restaurant.

Margaret and Warren went on to open Margaret Kuo’s in Wayne, Margaret Kuo’s Kitchen in the Granite Mall and in Media, and Margaret Kuo’s Mandarin in Malvern.

The pandemic saw the Malvern location closed and the Media property sold.  Margaret’s oldest son, Mark, and Warren will continue to run the Granite Run restaurant.

Margaret’s had a creative menu of authentic Chinese cuisine with traditional recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother.
