John G Drosdick has donated $15 million toward Villanova University's College of Engineering building project.

The former Sunoco CEO, John G Drosdick, has donated $15 million to Villanova University for its nearly-completed expanded engineering building, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Drosdick graduated from Villanova in 1965. His latest gift adds to the $5 million he gave toward the College of Engineering building project two years ago.

Villanova estimates that the 150,000-square-foot expansion of the building, to be known as Drosdick Hall, will cost $125 million.

His latest $15 million gift will create an endowment to support Villanova Engineering and the building.

John G Drosdick was CEO of Sunoco, a Fortune 500 energy firm, from 2000 to 2008. He’s a former chair of Villanova’s board of trustees.

The expansion project more than doubles the College of Engineering’s footprint, adding 11 flexible lab spaces, classrooms, and faculty offices.

The building will be open to students in the fall, bringing all of Villanova’s engineering programs together.

“I want to make sure that tomorrow’s engineering students have the same transformative experience I had at Villanova,” Drosdick said in a statement. “This new building will create these opportunities for our future engineers.”
