A 10-year project to renovate the top three floors of the Fair Acres Geriatric Center’s tallest building was celebrated Thursday with a red carpet dedication, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

County officials and dignitaries cut the ribbon on the 11th floor of Building 8, officially opening the 10th, 11th and 12th floors of the tower.

The renovations allow for 110 more beds in the building.

“We have been waiting a long time for this. This renovation project took a lot of patience, hard work and we’re excited to open these floors, said Fair Acres Administrator Bill D’Amico.

The $13 million project created new new heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, new call bells and televisions, new electric beds and upgrades to the fire alarm and sprinkler system.

There are also three new elevators for the building.

Each of the renovated floors has 19 residential rooms. There are new resident lounges, nursing stations, medical rooms, offices, and employee break rooms.

A glass-enclosed patio off the day room offers scenic views.

The facility was recently recognized by Newsweek as one of the top 750 nursing homes in the United States.
