Cheesesteak Bowl Sunday in Broomall Reveals Two Champions
The men had 10 minutes to consume as many cheesesteaks as they could at this year’s Cheesesteak Bowl Sunday at the Marple Public House restaurant in Broomall.
This year, some came armed for the fifth-annual National Cheesesteak Day competition. One contestant had earbuds. Another brought antacids, writes Michaelle Bond for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Prizes of gifts cards, cash and a championship belt were on the table.
The cheesesteaks were Delco Steaks’ Classic Delcos, 12-inchers with 10 ounces of rib eye and Cooper Sharp on seeded Carangi rolls.
Proceeds that day went to HEADStrong Foundation and Luciano’s Light Foundation.
As of dinnertime Sunday, the event had raised more than $850.
Winning the amateur round with three cheesesteaks was Rob McGee, 32, of New York.
Dan Kennedy of West Decatur took a fifth win this year in the professional eater round, having won the previous four Cheesesteak Bowls in a row. This year, he beat three other competitors with seven-and-a-half cheesesteaks.
“The biggest thing is to just try to get into a rhythm and just keep repeating that,” he said.
