Champion Eats 9 Cheesesteaks in 11 Minutes at Cheesesteak Bowl
The Cheesesteak Bowl at Marple Public House in Broomall did not disappoint this year when winner Dan Kennedy downed nine cheesesteaks in 11 minutes, reports Claudia Dimuo for Penn Live.
The Daily Times reported that Kennedy, 40, of West Decatur, Clearfield County, drove about four hours to get to the contest.
It was his third consecutive Cheesesteak Bowl win, taking home a championship belt and a cash prize.
Kennedy defeated Molly Schuyler in the Bowl’s first-ever “eat-off” when both were tied at seven and three-quarter cheesesteaks at the 10-minute cut-off.
Kennedy kept his title by adding another on-foot cheesesteak in a minute and 9 seconds of overtime.
In the amateur category, Dan Nawrocki of West Chester took the title, consuming two and three-quarter cheesesteaks in 10 minutes.
The annual Bowl, presented by Delco Steaks corresponds with National Cheesesteak Day March 24.
This year, 50 amateur and professional cheesesteak-chomping contestants competed.
The Cheesesteak Bowl is described by Delco Steaks as a “feat of gastrointestinal strength”.
A portion of the proceeds from the gastro competition goes to the HEADStrong Foundation, a nonprofit providing financial, residential, and emotional support to families impacted by cancer.
