Breakfast sandwiches have risen to an art form at some Delaware County eateries, surpassing even the popular Sizzli at Wawa.

The better places bake their own bagels, biscuits, or rolls and use Cooper sharp American cheese, writes Neil Bardhan and Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The choice of protein varies from standards like bacon, sausage, and pork rolls to tofu, bulgogi, and alligator.

The Philadelphia Inquirer searched eight counties in two states and came up with a list of the 50 best breakfast sandwiches. There are three delicious options in Delco.

Bittersweet Kitchen is a cozy all-day café in downtown Media, and it excels with its French toast BLT.

There’s a creamy crunchiness in the toast, and the sweet-smoky brown sugar bacon sells it.

Michael’s Sandwich Shop in Woodlyn has been around since 1977. Owner Michael Cirilli has a particularly delicious version of the peppers and egg sandwich on a long roll, using house-made peppers in oil.

Tank & Libby’s is a brunchette that opened five years ago in Pilgrim Gardens. They’ve taken a standard Taylor pork roll, scrambled, and cheese sandwich and gave it new life with caramelized onions.
