Wilson's Secret Sauce offers award-winning barbecue and some tantalizing special sandwiches.

“We only smoke the good stuff in Delco.”

That’s what it says on a sign for Wilson’s Secret Sauce in Upper Darby, a BBQ restaurant known for its brisket.

“The sign says it all. I’m looking for the secret sauce,” reports Bob Kelly for Fox 29.

A mechanic for 30 years, Steve Wilson was just a typical backyard barbecuer, experimenting with spices or trying new wood for the weekend barbecue.

Then he started winning awards for his barbecue, including The Gary Maddox BBQ Challenge and the Diamond State BBQ Championship.

They opened up the restaurant five and a half years ago at 265 E. Township Line Road.

“A lot of restaurants local, pizza shops. I wholesale my brisket out to them.  I do a lot of vegan and vegetarian as well,” Wilson said.

Don’t ask him what’s in the secret sauce, though.

“I can’t tell you that,“ Wilson said.

Besides brisket, Wilson’s has ribs and wings, homemade sweet cornbread made by Steve’s wife, Kelly Wilson, and vegetarian baked beans.

Specials are the People’s Choice Award-winning brisket burger and the Upper Darby Lobster Roll, which took a Best of Philly award.

The two-pound sandwich has sauteed lobster and brisket in a cheese sauce blend.
