Kids Bullied for Shoes or Clothes Now Have a Sneaker Ally

By

Growing up as an immigrant, Dr. Claudio V. Cerullo has seen his share of bullying.

Now he’s doing something to help others who go through the same thing, writes Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.

Cerullo founded “Sneakers for Smiles” in Aston to bring new sneakers to victims of bullying. He’s reached over 1,000 victims and those who advocate against bullying.

He hopes the offer of stylish sneakers will prevent the pain he had to endure.

“The trying part was that I never had really anything cool. If you don’t have something cool, certainly your backpack, a hoodie, and the pair of sneakers you wear, the ridicule certainly comes in,” said Dr. Cerullo.

The donated sneakers go nationwide. The criteria is that recipients are victims of bullying because of their shoes or attire, as well as “those who are upstanders in their community,” Dr. Cerullo said.

His wife, Daniela Cerullo, met him because of the bullying her own son was receiving. She’s seen how he’s changed lives.

The two have launched TeachAntiBullying.Org, conducting community outreach through workshops and assemblies.

They continue to partner in life and business in a mission to help others.
