After suffering an unsuspecting assault by a few youngsters, a Philadelphia man is now feeling the unexpected support of a few hundred or more sympathizers from across the country.

And Havertown nonprofit Teach Anti Bullying was at the center of a celebration for the victim, Mark Smith.

Teach Anti Bullying Founder and CEO Claudio V. Cerullo capped a 40th birthday party for Smith on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art with a special “anti-bullying medal, tickets to a Philadelphia Soul game, and a signed picture of one of Smith’s favorite athletes, Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors,” according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report by Stephanie Farr.

“People from all walks of life are encouraging him,” said Bishop Leonard Goins. “It lets him know that society still cares and that people still have a heart.”

As Teach Anti Bullying’s Cerullo put it, Smith will have a lot of people in his corner when he reaches the top of the same inspirational steps that Rocky climbed.
