More than 30 years ago, Claudio Cerullo, Ph.D. was a teenager targeted by bullies, writes Kevin Tustin for the Delaware County News Network.

Today, Cerullo and his wife, Daniela, run the Delco-based non-profit organization called Teach Anti-Bullying Inc.  Cerullo reached out to the Upper Darby community with a recent anti-bullying workshop at the Tower Theater.

Upper Darby Mayor Tom Micozzie, who helped organize the workshop, called bullying a silent problem, ranging from school hazing to adults not having nice bosses.

“This is about tools for parents on how to deal with situations for their child or their families,” he said.

Half of students in grades five through 12 report sometimes being bullied according to a U.S. Department of Justice survey.

“You can’t be busy for your kids, you have to talk to them. We have to develop relationships with kids, know who your kids are,” Cerullo said.

The Upper Darby School District has contracted to create a trauma-informed professional development plan that included four hours of professional development with district staff and access to two specialists who will work with 30 students at the high school.
