The daughter of a former Major League Baseball catcher and a two-sport star at Rutgers University is making her own fame at the Academy of Notre Dame, writes Joseph Santoliquito for The Philadelphia Inquirer and the City of Basketball Love.

Varsity starter Riley Davis, a 5-foot-9 freshman guard, credits her parents, Ben and Megan, for her varsity success.

Her dad, Ben Davis, played seven years in the majors.

Megan was a Rutgers star in soccer and lacrosse.

Riley gets her defensive shrewdness from “definitely Mom.”

“Dad, I know, liked to shoot, but defense, that comes from being coached in lacrosse by my mom.”

She played AAU basketball for the first time in seventh grade and found out she loved it.

“As I’ve gotten older, it’s really cool realizing who my parents are and where I come from.”

Megan said her daughter has always had great court sense.

“I’m just happy she is having fun. That’s the biggest priority for me and Ben.”

Notre Dame coach Terry Mancini is amazed over some of Riley’s moves and plays and agrees she has a good feel for basketball, making her future “limitless.”
