Local Musicians Record Song Written by Chopper 6 Photographer as a ‘Loving Tribute’

By

The week before he passed in the Chopper 6 crash, late photographer Chris Dougherty, uploaded on YouTube a performance of his song, “Candy Cane Lane,” writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

To honor Dougherty and his musical talent, local musicians led by Tommy Conwell, frontman of Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers recorded a version of the song in Conshohocken.

Conwell had first met Dougherty last year at the Oreland Swim Club while he was performing a show. Dougherty asked him if he could perform an original song that night.

“Everyone liked it and I thought…I want to be friends with that guy,” Conwell said. “You know what I mean, I look forward to seeing him again.”

When he heard about the crash that took both Doughtery’s and pilot Monroe Smith’s lives, he wanted to do something to help.

He gathered up some of his musician friends together to record a version of “Candy Cane Lane.”

David Uosikkinen, Kenny Aaronson, and his daughter, Chloe Conwell, all contributed to the track and Studio 4 Recording in Conshohocken donated the studio time.

You can download the song and donate to Chris Daughter’s family on Conwell’s website.

“If nothing else, it’s a loving tribute,” Conwell said.
