Be the Joy Foundation Gifts Go to Media Family After Year of Strife

By

A family from Media who had a pretty rough year got some holiday relief from the local business community, and the Be the Joy Foundation, culminating with an all-expenses-paid trip to Disney World, writes Bryanna Gallagher for 6abc.

The Muss family said the year of hardship and what they’ve had to overcome has made all of them stronger.

In December 2021, Dan Muss had a heart attack. In 2022, his wife, Lisa, was diagnosed with cancer.

Then this past September, son Ethan, 6, had to have open heart surgery.

“I’ve been working with Be The Joy Foundation since February to surprise them after this family has survived three major tragedies,” explained Lisa’s sister, Lori Brennan.

On Dec. 23, Santa and Mrs. Claus, family members, and Brittany Scharr with the Be The Joy Foundation showed up at their door with their gifts.

Local businesses donated gift cards, and that Disney World trip was all set for Presidents’ Day weekend.

The Muss family was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.

“After three crappy years, it’s going to be nice to start a new year on a great trip with my family,” Dan said.
