The Foundation for Delaware County channels much-needed funds from private and public sources to nonprofits and community groups that are helping meet the needs of Delaware County residents facing challenges and difficult times.

Its recent annual report is loaded with facts and figures demonstrating how money is being used to build a better community here in Delaware County.

But the Foundation also provides financial guidance to individuals and families on how they can give back to the community.

A testimonial from Cindy and Dave Pelton that appears in the Foundation’s 2022 Annual Report highlights a partnership that plays an important role in charitable giving.

The Peltons have instilled the idea of giving back to their three children.

“We’ve served in food kitchens in Philadelphia, worked for Habitat for Humanity, mentored students at Radnor ABC, been part of many MLK Day service projects, and financially supported many worthy causes,” the couple wrote in the annual report.

“Through our donor-advised fund at The Foundation for Delaware County, we have involved our children … (now in their 20s and early 30s) in philanthropy,” they wrote.

The Foundation worked with the Pelton family to set charitable priorities. They focused on food insecurity, education, families with medical challenges, and efforts to address climate change.

“Each year, our children have a certain amount of money from the fund that they direct towards local, national, and international organizations supporting our family’s philanthropic goals,” they wrote.

The kids are part of the process, researching and selecting the nonprofits, then deciding how to allocate the funding.

“We have been incredibly impressed with the knowledge the Foundation has offered us in helping us direct our gifts,” Cindy and Dave Pelton wrote.

In fact, the Foundation introduced them to the Chester Charter Scholars Academy (CCSA) and Dave was so impressed that he ended up on the CCSA Board and is now tutoring students.

“The Foundation makes it easy to direct gifts to local and national nonprofits while also handling the fund’s administration so we can focus more on visiting the organizations we support,” the couple wrote.
