Point guard Lucy Olsen is on track to follow in Villanova women’s basketball star Maddy Siegrist from last season, writes Brooke Ackerman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Siegrist, an All-American and the Big East player of the year led the nation in scoring last season with 29.2 points per game/ She helped give the Wildcats a 30-7 record and a Sweet 16 run.

The Villanova team had a void when Siegrist opted to pursue the 2023 WNBA draft.

Now, Olsen is working toward filling that void.

As a Villanova freshman, she started in all 33 games, averaging 7.0 points and 2.7 rebounds., plus Olsen was named to the Big East all-rookie team.

During her sophomore season, she started in all 37 games, averaging 12.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in 33.1 minutes.

She also earned second-team all-Big East and first-team all-Big 5 accolades.

Now as she steps into a lead role with the Wildcats, she’s been named to the preseason all-Big East first team.

“I think it’s something Lucy embraces,” said head coach Denise Dillon. “It’s something she was looking to step into. She always has strived for more, and now [she has] a set opportunity to continue to do what she does.”
