Now some guests will be able to stay with travelers through airport security to the gate through a Wingmate Pass program.

Now there’s a way for some guests to pass through Philadelphia Airport security to accompany travelers to their gate, wait for domestic passengers, or shop and eat in the airport.

The airport is implementing a Wingmate Pass program starting Nov. 1, writes Brian Saunders for Philly Voice.

Those who want the pass can apply online up to seven days before arriving at the airport. The application asks general security questions.

The passes will be sent to approved guests at midnight on the day of their visit.

The free program is limited to 50 people per day, said Heather Redfern, a spokesperson for Philadelphia International Airport.

Guests with Wingmate passes must go through TSA clearance at gates D, E, or A-East. The passes are good for up to six hours between 6 AM and 10 PM.

“They need to show ID and are subject to the same security check procedures as ticketed passengers and cannot bring more than one personal item through security,” Redfern said.

In the past, people who wanted to accompany a traveler to an airport gate had to contact the airlines directly.

Stricter security was put in place at airports following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
