Phillies fan Jake Long had a chance to attend two of the playoff games with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Despite the Phillies’ loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 7 of the National League Championship series, one Delaware County man feels blessed that he was able to get to two playoff games, writes Caroline Goggin for 6abc.

Phillies fan Jake Long, 53, born and raised in Ridley, is a lifelong, proud Philadelphia sports fan.

Long remembers going to games at the Vet with his grandfather and has made sure to pass his love of the local teams to his own children and grandchildren.

His enthusiasm for the Phillies comes at a time when he is fighting for his life.

Long has stage 4 esophageal cancer that has spread to his liver. The cancer is incurable and inoperable.

While he holds out hope for a new treatment, he’s soaking up every moment with his family.

They rallied around him last week, campaigning to get him to a Phillies playoff game.

A former employer was able to get Long to Game 6 on Monday with his grandson, who was dressed like Brandon Marsh.

An old friend got him and his wife to Game 7.

“To be in that crowd with my son, and now tonight with my wife, it’s going to be unbelievable,” he said.
