Cancer Survivor From Ridley Throws Out World Series Pitch
Luke Theodosiades of Ridley had a once-in-a-lifetime moment last week. He took the mound at Citizens Bank Park before the start of Game Four of the World Series and threw out the ceremonial first pitch, writes Alex Rose for the Daily Times.
After the pitch, Bryce Harper walked over to him and had a quick conversation with him.
“He said, ‘Hope all is well. It looked good.’ I told him to end it.”
The Kutztown University sophomore also met former Philadelphia Phillies player Jimmy Rollins and singer Bruce Springsteen, and sat next to first lady Jill Biden during the game.
Theodosiades said he was calm throughout the entire experience.
“I wasn’t really nervous, because I played baseball pretty much my whole life,” he said.
He’s a huge Philly fan and a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed in 7th grade with a form of leukemia known as acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or ALL.
After failing to respond to chemotherapy, he participated in a clinical trial for a T Cell therapy funded by Stand Up to Cancer and Major League Baseball.
The teen has been cancer-free for six years.
