For actress Monica Horan, playing the role of Sara Jane Moore in Stephen Sondheim’sAssassins” at the Arden Theater is particularly rewarding.

“I have a lot of really, really close friends and family here, so when I get to do theater on top of that, which is my love, my dream, it’s also like a family reunion, a high school reunion, a grade school reunion all in one,” she told Philly Live’s Aunyea Lachelle.

Horan grew up in Glenolden, went to Archbishop Prendergast High School, and participated in Upper Darby’s Summer Stage.

She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children but always appreciates a chance to come home.

Horan is best known for her role as Amy MacDougall-Barone on the popular sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.”

It was Arden founder and artistic director Terry Nolan and music director Ryan Touhey that persuaded her to take the part in “Assassins.”

Initially thinking a Sondheim musical was too intimidating because the music is so challenging, she’s now grateful to join the “spectacular cast” in a musical that is so profound.

Horan has performed before at the Arden in “Gypsy.” She’s now a member of its board of directors.
