Delco Helping Hands is extending its support by providing food and household items to those in need in Delaware County.

A group of moms in Delaware County got together on Facebook back in 2018 to offer each other support.

They called themselves Delco Helping Hands. The group was founded by Pauline Butcher and Kristin Miller, who experienced homelessness and wanted to help people going through a similar situation.

Now, Delco Helping Hands has opened a food and household item pantry in Prospect Park, reports Madeline Wright for CBS 3 Philadelphia.

The pantry is the first in the county to serve teens.  Anyone from Delaware County can use it after filling out a form on the nonprofit’s Facebook page.

Nina Bromley, a board member at Delco Helping Hands, helps run the pantry from the basement of Prospect United Methodist Church on Lincoln Avenue.

It officially opened on Sept. 10. Previously, volunteers were running things out of their homes.

“When it’s run out of everyone’s homes, it goes by everyone’s work schedule because we’re all full-time working moms. So that made it hard,” Bromley said.

She estimates the nonprofit has helped more than 800 families.

“A lot of people cannot afford the necessities that it takes to live anymore, so that’s where we’re trying to fill the gap,” Bromley said.
