Haverford High Grad Annalena O’Reilly On Her Way to Some Goal-Setting Records in Drexel Soccer
Annalena O’Reilly, a Haverford High School graduate, is In her fifth and final season playing women’s soccer at Drexel University, writes Lochlahn March for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Her final season includes two game-winning goals out of four total and the honor of being the reigning CAA Midfielder of the Year.
“I think it just is; I really want to win. I’m super competitive,” O’Reilly said. “So it’s just that extra push.”
Helped by O’Reilly, the Dragons have a 4-2-0 start to the season, winning all three of their home matches.
O’Reilly had seven goals in 2022, which tied for sixth most in program history.
In 2023, she’s already more than halfway to her 2022 total, even though it’s not even a third into the season.
She credits the team. “I obviously don’t get the goals on my own; it’s the support of my teammates.”
She hasn’t thought much about what happens after college as far as playing professionally. Her main goal now is to return to the CAA playoffs.
“We really got a taste of it last year, but we didn’t quite get there,” O’Reilly said. “So I think it makes us even hungrier for this year.”
