Mike Dougherty of Ridley Park Inducted Into Pro Football Hall of Fame
Mike Dougherty of Ridley Park is having a pretty good summer award-wise, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
The football videographer was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Then, he made NFL history by being one of the first five in the Video Film Directors category to get national recognition and to receive the Hall’s Award of Excellence.
Dougherty, (“Doc” to his friends) was the Philadelphia Eagles’ film/video director from 1976 through 2012. He retired in 2013.
In his 37 years, Dougherty never missed any of the team’s 736 games and only missed two practices.
He also represented the Eagles at the NFL Draft for 30 years.
Dougherty has adapted to changes in technology, starting with 16mm film, then video, then digital computerization
He’s considered a pioneer in his field, leading the way for other NFL teams to follow.
His In-house films are used by the Eagles to teach, evaluate, scout, and train.
“I’m just so grateful for the years I had with the Eagles, the memories, and the lasting friendships we made,” Dougherty said. “I hope this opened up opportunities for others who work behind the scenes to be recognized down the road.”
