Kelly Ireland, also known as the “tiny plumber girl,” is getting noticed in the male-dominated plumbing industry.

The Ridley Park resident is a master plumber who was recently featured on an episode of “Ask This Old House” on PBS, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

The 4-foot 11-inch Ireland is the owner of TPG Mechanical LLC, and she’s worked on significant like the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Roberts Center and the Comcast Technology Center.

As she fought against men’s attitudes and prejudices toward “a woman in a man’s world,” she earned the respect of all who knew her.

“I absolutely love what I do,” she said. “Not to toot my own horn, but I’m really good at my trade and take immense pride in my work.”

Ireland is a 2005 graduate of Ridley High School who started off studying nursing at Neumann University.

It was her father, Patrick, a retired union plumber, who steered her toward the plumbing trade, and Chris Tucker, a plumbing contractor, who encouraged her and became her mentor.

These days, she loves mentoring other women, connecting to women in the trades through Instagram, as well as being active in the organization Women in Non-traditional Careers.
