Aid Sought for Storm-Ravaged Chadds Ford Homeowners
Winds that were clocked up to 85 mph Monday took down trees, destroyed two homes in Chadds Ford, and damaged two dozen others, reported Fox 29.
Now homeowners are hoping for some government help to cover Chadds Ford cleanup costs, particularly for large tree removal bills that can reach $30,000 to $50,000.
“It’s gotten a little pricey,” Robert Tucker told FOX 29. “We’re talking a little north of $30,000 for me and probably $50,000 for some of my neighbors.”
Delaware County and federal officials toured the damaged communities left by Monday night’s winds and heavy rain.
Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, representing Pennsylvania’s 5th congressional district, is looking for some low-cost federal loans to help residents pay for things not picked up by insurance.
“Just these three or four properties, there is about $100,000 worth of tree removal damage, that’s even before you get to the home damage,” Scanlon said.
Most of the damage is in the western part of Delaware County.
Tucker said it’s the risk homeowners take when they want the beautiful landscape that comes with living in a heavily-wooded area.
