Aldan Native, Bonner-Prendie Grad Getting Noticed by the MLB
Kevin McGonigle, an Aldan native, and Bonner-Prendergast High School graduate, is getting noticed ahead of the MLB draft thanks to some great middle infielder work, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.
He currently ranks 33rd on MLB.com’s Draft Pipeline. The first round of the draft has 39 picks.
The 18-year-old is hard-working as a second baseman, but he can also power hit from the left side.
Baseball has followed his life. At age 4, he remembers banging pots and pans outside his house after the Phillies took the championship for the first time in 25 years.
His skill comes from years of practice and determination, starting as a young child with his dad tossing him Nerf balls in the living room and McGonigle pounding them into the corner with his souvenir Phillies bat.
“I want to be the best to ever live,” McGonigle said.
McGonigle is likely to be selected in the MLB draft ahead of hundreds of 22-year-old college students.
He’s hit nearly 500 over his three years of high school, further along than many his age.
He could end up competing against older players at his chosen university, Aubern, or against older players in the minor leagues.
