Nowadays, it’s easy to find a large amount of star power from the Philadelphia region playing in the WNBA.

But history shows there’s been a long tradition of players from the region in the league,  writes Jonathan Tannenwald for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Now there’s a top 10 ranked list of the best WNBA players covering the league’s 27 seasons who came from the Philadelphia region.

One of those who made the list, coming in at No. 5, was Natasha Cloud, a Broomall native, and St. Joseph’s graduate.

She’s a social activist and a key player for the Washington Mystics as a point guard.

Cloud won a championship with Washington in 2019. Last year, she was the WNBA’s assists leader and was on the all-defensive first team.

She actually opted out of the WNBA season in 2020, choosing instead to focus on her social justice work, earning numerous humanitarian awards, endorsements, and praise.

She remains frustrated with the lack of coverage and support for women’s sports.

“Stop giving us half-assed investments,” Cloud said in an interview in May.  “If you invest into us, there will be a return.”
