Villanova University student Phil Sandor recently gave a Radnor police officer a ride in the middle of a foot pursuit, reports Fox 29.

Sandor was driving to class April 17 when he saw Radnor Police Officer Kyle Hand chasing someone who ran from a traffic stop on Lancaster Avenue.

The suspect seemed to escape after jumping over electrified SEPTA high speed line train tracks but Sandor, watching from a nearby street, offered Officer Hand a ride to catch up to the fleeing suspect.

“In my head I was thinking ‘there’s a good chance he might need help, because I don’t see his car,’ so I figured he’d been running a bit,” Sandor said.

Sandor navigated around the train tracks and dropped the eight-year police veteran in a nearby neighborhood where the 27-year-old suspect was hiding.

The suspect, taken into custody, ended up with warrants in Philadelphia for crimes, including assault.

“I was really surprised,” Officer Hand said. “In my eight years of being a police officer that has never happened to me before where a citizens has come out of nowhere and volunteered their services.”

Radnor police thanked Sandor officially a few days later with a certificate of appreciation.
