Wawa News: It’s the Schwarbomb and More Central PA Openings
Wawa continues its push into Central Pennsylvania and rival Sheetz territory, writes Sue Gleiter for Penn Live.
The Delaware County chain is planning a convenience store in Chambersburg.
The 5,330-square-foot store would be built at a former Sakura Japanese restaurant.
Approval is pending from the Chambersburg town council.
Last summer, Wawa announced it was doubling its store count in the central Pennsylvania region in the next three to five years. The first store would open in 2024.
The Schwarbomb
The chain is also continuing its partnership with Philadelphia Phillies left-fielder Kyle Schwarber. Wawa’s Dragon+Iced and frozen Recharger beverage has been renamed “The Schwarbomb,” reports Donna Rovins for the Daily Times.
Through May 7, customers can order the beverage through the Wawa App for $4.88—a reference to Schwarber’s record-breaking 488-foot homer run in the 2022 post-season.
Wawa created SchwarberFest in 2022, a limited HoagieFest promotion named for Schwarber before playoff Game 1 in post-season 2022,
Since Schwarber hit 12 home runs back in June when HoagieFest ran, it was hoped the SchwarberFest would encourage Scharber to hit better during the National League Championship.
He ended up hitting a home run during Game 3 of the National League Championship Series.
