Delaware County’s population has remained largely unchanged in 2022, with only a minor drop in numbers, writes Eugene Tauber for The Morning Call.

Looking at recently released U.S. Census data of county populations in Pennsylvania, Delaware County was down 1,590 people between 2021 and 2022, a mere .28 percent decrease.

Delaware County’s population went down from 576,772 in 2021 to 575,182 in 2022, based on recorded births and deaths and on migration into and out of the state.

The county recorded 6,382 births and 6,189 deaths in 2022, a natural increase of 193 people.

But Delaware County also recorded a net loss of 1,699 people moving into and out of Pennsylvania.

Total population grew in 20 of the state’s 67 counties.

Pennsylvania’s population dropped by about 40,000 people in 2022 when calculating the net result of those who migrated or were born in Pennsylvania, compared to the number who died or moved away.

The state counties that lost the most were Philadelphia County, down 22,222 and Allegheny, down 12,192.

The loss in 2022 outstrips a gain of 17,600 people that was seen in 2021, mostly because of people moving away.
