Luxury apartments are going up at the Granite Run Promenade town center off Baltimore Pike in Media, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

The apartments will be built on the site of the old AMC Granite Run multiplex and adjoining stores.

Occupancy is maxed out at the town center’s existing “50 at Granite Run” apartments next to the Acme and PennDOT Center so construction crews are beginning the second phase of new apartments.

Middletown Township approved two apartment buildings for the center but the second one could not be built until occupancy at the first was at least 85 percent.

That has happened, said Middletown Council Chairman Mark Kirchgasser.  There’s a six-month waiting list to get in.

“It’s been very popular,” he said. “Luxury apartments are apparently the thing because it’s sold out and I believe they expect equal success at their new location when completed.”

BET Investments, developers of the Promenade, planned for 400 apartments in total. There are now 185 at the first location.

The former AMC movie multiplex was built in the 1980s. It closed in 2020.

Occupancy rates at the Promenade are reported to be above 90 percent.
