The Sears department store at the Promenade at Granite Run has been a steady presence at the former Granite Run Mall site since 1974.

Now it’s expected to close in August, reportedly on Aug 22, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

“My understanding is that they’re going to close in August,” Michael Markman, president of BET Investments, said. Sears does have a long-term contract with BET investments at the site, he added.

Sears is a 175,000 square-foot department store at the Promenade on Baltimore Pike, across from Riddle Hospital.

The Sears is an anchor, with Boscov’s, TJ Maxx, Michael’s, Kohl’s, Edge Fitness and Acme.

Sears’ parent company, Transformco, posted on its job site a position for a seasonal backroom associate and a cashier at the Media store, writing “STORE CLOSING” in the job descriptions.

Multiple attempts by the Daily Times to reach Transformco were unsuccessful.

In 2019, Sears Holding Corp., now Transformco, closed the Clifton Heights and MacDade Mall Kmarts, but the Granite Run Sears stayed open.

In February 2020, Transformco closed 96 Sears and Kmart stores nationwide but Granite Run survived.

It remained open during the changeover from the Granite Run Mall into the Promenade at Granite Run.
