Sold-Out Games Are a Sign of Good Times for Philadelphia Union

The Philadelphia Union celebrate their 2022 Eastern Conference championship win

Philadelphia Union’s success after making it to the Major League Soccer Cup last fall, means it’s harder to get tickets this season, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Every game will be sold out this season, said Philadelphia Union President Tim McDermott. Season ticket sales are at an all-time high, approaching the need for a waiting list.

Though the Union has not yet brought home an MLS Cup trophy, it is continuing to rise in status.

The team rose five spots in Forbes’ recent ranking of MLS team valuations, sitting at No. 13, up from No. 18 in 2019.  It has more than doubled its valuation to $575 million.

It has 60 sponsors and partners, with seven new deals created so far in 2023.

Apple TV will start broadcasting their games in a 10-year deal valued at $2.5 billion.

The Union also signed with 97.5 The Fanatic (WPEN-FM) to air its matches this season.

“We are at highs in pretty much every single business category there is,” Tim McDermott said. “Whether that’s the ticketing side, the sponsorship side, the TV ratings side, or the retail merchandise side. It’s been fantastic.”
