Modern Conversion of 1850 Media Bank Barn Lists for $2.4M
An 1850 bank barn in Media is seeing new life as a completely refitted modern home listing for $2.389 million, writes Lisa Dukart for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The former barn, at 10 Pineview Drive, is 5,031 square feet and has 35-foot-tall ceilings and stairs and catwalks from a major rock band’s former stage.
Current owner Reuben Rath, founder of the Media-based building design firm Dwell & Co. saw a lot of potential with the property when he bought it in January 2020.
The upgrades started in March 2020 and took a year.
He and his wife now live in the home, but his intention had always been to sell it.
Rath aimed for a “modern rustic” space, combining modern aesthetics with the barn’s history.
“I just go for different,” he said.
The 19th-century barn building now has smart controls, plenty of glass for natural light, connected living space and structural beams allowing soaring space that opens up the living area.
“Whenever I design a home, I always design as if I was designing it for myself. I love to cook, we love to entertain, so those are two aspects [that are a] big focus,” Rath said.
