Here are four Delaware County locales that you can rely on for an outstanding hoagie experience, part of a list of 25 essential shops in the Philadelphia region, writes Bradford Pearson, Regan Fletcher Stephens, and Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

1. Ro-Lynn Deli in Brookhaven offers up its signature sandwich, the Godfather hoagie on a Liscio seeded roll. There’s a meat-provolone base under a veggie layer with another Delco meat roll on top of the lettuce, tomato, onions, and long hots for an overflowing sandwich.

2. Sangillo’s Farm Fresh Produce & Deli in Drexel Hill.  This Delco favorite is staffed with hoagie engineers who craft your sandwich. Try the two-foot-long Uncle Tony Italian with long hots and actual sharp provolone.

3. DiCostanza’s Sandwich in Boothwyn is under third-generation ownership by Augie DiConstanza, who served his first customers when he was eight, standing on a box to make the sandwich.

Here, tomatoes shine even in the dead of winter.

4. Pagano’s in Drexel Hill is very serious about their Italian hoagies, offering nine versions. There’s even an Italian hoagie Stromboli.  You’ll find a Pagano hoagie platter at many Delco events around town.
