The Walnut Street Theatre’s production of “Cinderella” has proven so popular it’s been extended through Dec. 31, helped along, no doubt, by Drexel Hill native Rebecca Robbins’ portrayal of the fairy godmother, writes Ruth Rovner for the Daily Times.

Robbins is a long-time Walnut Street player, taking on her first role 20 years ago.

Her current role as the fairy godmother has been interesting, she said.

“There’s a different take from the traditional fairy tale. The difference is that I help Cinderella to see her own potential and that she can make magic herself.”

Robbins’ character also gets two standout musical solos in the show, at one point flying across the stage as she’s singing “Impossible”.

That was a new challenge for her.

“I’m singing while I’m flying, and that’s a different kind of singing that I’ve never done before,” explained  Robbins. “There’s nothing to ground me because my feet are in the air.”

She knows many people in the cast, including Kathryn Brunner, playing Cinderella, so there’s good camaraderie.

“We have such good chemistry. We’re good friends in real life and I think that translates to the stage as well.”
