The outfit worn by Macaulay Culkin in "Home Alone" has become a popular Christmas sweater.

Christmas sweaters have emerged as a holiday-couture must-have. Boohoo, a West Hollywood online clothing retailer, reported on a popular variation of the seasonal look: the Christmas movie-Christmas sweater.

Boohoo’s analysts parsed U.S. search volume for Christmas movie-themed clothing to discern which film franchises yields the most sought-after sweaters.

For 2022, the top-four ranked images relate to:

  1. Dr. Seuss’ Grinch
  2. Die Hard
  3. Home Alone
  4. Gremlins

Online searches for the Grinch averaged about 4,000 per month in the U.S., reflecting its level of demand.

While the image from the 1966 CBS special seem to dominate, consumers also opt for versions with Jim Carrey and those reflecting the CGI Grinch, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, from 2018.

The second most popular Christmas movie sweater is worn by Karl Vreski, portrayed by Alexander Godunov, in Die Hard. The sweater in question is a grey-knitted number, paired with a Santa hat.

Third place’s Home Alone has protagonist Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) sporting a heathered red-knit sweater prime that fans find highly desirable.

Fourth place, Gremlins, is a bit surprising, considering the film’s age (it was a 1984 release). But consumers seem drawn to monstrous creatures causing mayhem while decked in red-and-white-trimmed outfits.

More on this movie-related seasonal couture is at Boohoo.
