A trio of Philadelphia Union stars are trading a little down time for a big impact in a showdown with a foe that doesn’t stop advancing when the clock runs out: cancer.

Union players Charlie Davies, Chris Pontius, and Keegan Rosenberry recently lifted the spirits of cancer patients at the Crozer-Keystone Cancer Center in Broomall.

“This is something that truly brings joy to me: to inspire people and give people hope and to take their daily pain away, to help keep their mind off chemotherapy,” Davies, a cancer survivor himself, said in a Philadelphia Union post by Marisa Pilla.

And Pontius and Rosenberry have both experienced the toll cancer can take on close family members. That puts all three in a position to score against the aggressive and demoralizing disease.

“Seeing the way these people interact with us and see how happy they are even with everything they’re going through, it’s special for us,” Rosenberry said. “That’s why we enjoy going out on trips like this.”
