Local McDonald’s Franchise Owner John Niggeman Remembered

John Niggeman, who owned multiple McDonald’s restaurants in Delaware and Chester Counties, and who was part of the group that founded the first Ronald McDonald House, died Oct. 19.

John P. “Jack” Niggeman was 86.

Born in Sylvan Lake, Michigan on May 15, 1936, John Niggeman graduated from Albion College in Michigan before entering the army.

He later earned a master’s degree in business from the University of Michigan and began his career as a McDonald’s franchisee.

John Niggeman was involved in the community through his work with McDonald’s.

He was part of a group of people instrumental in the founding of the first Ronald McDonald House located in Philadelphia.

“Jack felt great pride and had a genuine interest in all of the wonderful people who worked for him over the years,” stated an obituary posted on Legacy.

He was known as a storyteller, believing stories connect and unite us, and loved to tell stories to his grandchildren.

 “Jack was an honest man who had a tender heart for those who needed a smile. He was a simple man who loved his family and his community and will be missed by many,” the obituary stated.
